(Nasdaq: INKP) today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted a "Notice of Allowance" for the "Method of Treating Inflammatory Conditions with Progesterone or Progesterone Analogs." The author of the patent included Alan Schreiber, M.D., a scientific co-founder of InKine. This patent for medroxyprogesterone (Colirest) provides InKine patent protection for the use of Colirest in treating patients with Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, proctitis, microscopic colitis, allergic eosinophilic gastroenteritis, food allergies, drug induced esophagitis, celiac disease, recurrent polyps and hemorrhoids. The patent protection also covers Colirest in a variety of delivery forms such as tablet, enema, suppository, foam, gel, ointment and suspension.
Colirest is currently being studied in a pivotal controlled clinical trial in Crohn's disease.
